Endodontics or root canal treatment deals with tooth preservation through modern treatment options.
The diseased, inflamed dental nerve and pulp are treated. If the dental nerve is inflamed or dead, tooth extraction can be avoided by means of root canal treatment. The focus is on completely cleaning the diseased root canal system of bacteria and tissue residues.

The aim of root canal treatment is the prompt, bacteria-tight closure of the root canal system.
In some cases, however, an interim medication is necessary. This can be useful for reasons of time (e.g. emergency treatment) as well as in the case of highly acute or purulent inflammation. In the case of highly bacterial and purulent inflammation, the intermediate medication can have a positive effect for a period of days to weeks. The most common cause of tooth inflammation is tooth decay. This inflammation can be very painful. In some cases, however, the patient experiences only mild to no pain. If this condition is left untreated, the infection and inflammation can spread to the bone and cause swelling, fever and severe pain.
