Only amalgam-free materials are used for filling therapy. In principle, it should be noted that the health insurance company only covers the costs for the cheapest option – amalgam filling. The amalgam, which consists, among other things, of mercury, has the disadvantage that it is dark in color and is also said to pose a certain health risk.

Pregnant women and children (milk tooth caries) do not receive amalgam fillings. In these cases one can use glass ionomer cement as an alternative. The durability and resistance of the material is very limited. Inorganic fillings or Composites have the advantage that they are white and therefore naturally aesthetic. They are inexpensive and have relatively good durability, but are not on a par with ceramic inlays.

Ceramic inlays or onlays have excellent cosmetic characteristics. They have high biocompatibility. These are individually manufactured by dental technicians in the laboratory for a perfect fit and also score points for their longevity.

The health insurance companies only cover the full costs for amalgam fillings; composite fillings are billed privately in the practice.
