Orthodontics for children and teenagers

In the case of severe malocclusions  IOTN 4 and 5 health insurance covers the entire costs of the treatment for orthodontic fixed tooth regulation, including ongoing check ups. No approval is needed for the treatment.

For minor malocclusions IOTN 1 to IOTN 3, the rule is that you receive the diagnosis from your orthodontist and submit an application for pre-authorization of the treatment your health insurance company. If your health insurance company approves , the treatment will proceed as usual with insured pacient co-payment and the health insurance company will provide a subsidy for fixed dental braces. If the health insurance company refuses to cover the costs then the treatment must be paid as a private service.

Since July 2015, the new law on free braces has been in effect for children and adolescents aged 12 to 18 years inclusive, with severe malocclusions that require serious treatment according to the “Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need” (IOTN treatment need level 4 or 5).

All IOTN cases 3 will also continue to receive statutory subsidies for orthodontic fixed tooth regulation, which must also be approved in advance by the respective health insurance company.

Orthodontics for adults - cost subsidy for adults

Fixed orthodontics for adults:

A health insurance subsidy per year of treatment can be applied for from the statutory health insurance companies, which must also be approved in advance by the respective health insurance company.

If approved, the patient will receive reimbursement for the corresponding service from the health insurance company.

The health insurance companies therefore grant a subsidy of between € 1,000 and € 3,800 for fixed orthodontic treatment (2-3 years), depending on the insurance provider, please note that the reimbursement depends on the type of malposition (need for IOTN treatment) and the age of the patient, but not on the price.

For teenagers and adults who want orthodontic treatment but don’t want brackets or annoying wires, the aligner method: invisible and removable, is the perfect solution. Removable transparent aligners allow you to eat and brush your teeth normally. Planning with modern software technology, the desired treatment result is simulated on the computer. The teeth are gently pushed into their optimal position.

We will take care of all the formalities for you so that you receive the cash subsidy to which you are entitled.
